Korean installation artist Do-Ho Suh

Inspired installation art from Korean born Do-Ho Suh.

Do-Ho Suh was born in Seoul, Korea in 1962. After studying oriental painting at the Seoul National University, and fulfilling his term of mandatory service in the South Korean military, Do-Ho Suh moved to the United States. There he received a BFA in painting from Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA in sculpture from Yale University. Do-Ho Suh’s sculptures are architectural environments, beautifully and meticulously crafted. Whether addressing the dynamic of personal space versus public space, or exploring the fine line between strength in numbers and homogeneity, he constructs site-specific installations that question the boundaries of identity.

Garden Furniture by Kevin Hunt

Garden Furniture by Kevin Hunt is a series of furniture pieces covered in a living skin made of a Chi-Pet like medium that allows grass to grow, changing the shape and color over time.

Artist’s statement

The Garden Furniture project came about through an interest in making sculpture that uses both permanent and ephemeral materials, altering a static piece of furniture by covering it in living, growing grass, the work therefore changed over time, altering itself, a process that became beyond my control.

For The Birds by Luke Bartels & Jeff Canham

Really fun handmade birdhouses by artists Luke Bartels and Jeff Canham. These birdhouses are part of their “For the Birds” show at the Curiosity Shoppe in San Francisco.

From Curiosity Shoppe

Combining immaculate craftsmanship with a wry sense of humor, these amazing objects present a whole village of bird houses, or rather bird businesses: The Condor Club Peep Show, Madame Cuckoo Psychic, Night Owls Bar, Pigeon Hole Motel…Each one adorable, meticulous, and completely one of a kind.

Paintings by Angelika J. Trojnarski

These beautiful paintings of decaying civilization are done by Polish artist Angelika J. Trojnarski. Her brush work is an amazing contrast of speed and precision, the brush marks make the subjects feel as though they are being viewed while in the middle of a violent collapse.

Text from Kinsey/DesForges Gallery

Variegated decay and abandonment are the protagonists of Trojnarski’s work – dissolving dwellings and orphaned amusement parks, rusted ship hulls and the rickety edifices of a civilization desperately denying its own condition and fate. Focusing on the architectural remains and industrial excess of an economic fall-out, Trojnarski examines how humanity’s true strengths can be dwarfed by the greed and myopia of a dominant few, leaving those affected clinging to their residual past and wondering what went wrong.

Ephemicropolis by Peter Root

The made me smile and cringe in back pain at the same time. Artist Peter Root’s latest work ‘Ephemicropolis’, is a pretty astonishing feat of patience and dexterity. He has made a mini-metropolis out of over 100,000 staples. The staple stacks were broken down into varying sizes and stood on end to form the city.

The project took 10,000 staples and over 40 hours of work!

Cartodendri – Daniele Papuli

I guess today is all about cool paper sculptures! I really love these amazing, and functional, paper sculptures from Daniele Papuli. The Cartodendri sculptures are made from magazines and other print material bound together in stump like table forms. These were shown at the Dilmos Gallery during Milan’s Design Week this year.

Eames chairs by Mike Perry

Im really in love with these chairs by artist / designer Mike Perry. His other work is really amazing as well, but I have an affinity for Eames chairs and I really like what Mike has done to these.

Mike started his professional career in Philadelphia working for Urban Outfitters but ended up chasing a cute girl to New York where his work really took off. He does beautiful prints, band posters, whimsical sculptures, and pretty much anything else that strikes his fancy. He’s done work for Nike, VIPP, De’Longhi, and LOMO, all of it really amazing!

In A Perfect World – Catrina Dulay

Catrina Dulay’s project In A Perfect World depicts the little annoyances that plague us all everyday. I always get frustrated when the little things go wrong, and I usually just shrug them off but now I’m going to smile and begin designing a perfect little graphic like these in my head.

I can just see the image now… Battery in electronic device lasts forever.

From the designer:

These are all normal happenings that exist in our imperfect day-to-day lives and this series of simple illustrations points out what a perfect world would be like without such disruptions. It’s an on-going project that I started in order to “celebrate” our everyday nuisances. It can also be seen as a means of discovering things that a lot of different people can relate to and think, “Yes! I hate it when that happens!”

What if Superheros had beards?

I’m kind of on a beard kick right now, I’ve been working a project that I will be printing up this weekend. Found this over on Geekologie.

These bearded beauties are the brainchild of Croatian Illustrator Vanja Mrgan. Can’t wait for more. I’m trying to think of what superman would look like with a beard, and would he seem as trust worthy if he had a face full of crumb catcher.
