Pure Typeface for Nokia by Bruno Maag

Nokia has just unveiled their new typeface, Pure, by by Swiss-born, London-based typographer Bruno Maag of the foundry Dalton Maag. Pure was designed to reference the rounded flow of handwriting while still looking modern and at home on the increasingly sharp screens of today’s smartphones. The typeface comes in three weights, each weight specifically designed to keep the rhythm of the letter forms constant and flowing forward.

To celebrate the launch of the Pure typeface, Nokia returned to an analog format, commissioning a woodblock version of the typeface for a limited edition print run by Matt Mckenzie of the London-based Paekakariki Press. This short video, “Pure Reversal” documents that process.

Grains Week by Annemieke Beemster Leverenz for GrowNYC

Beautiful work by Annemieke Beemster Leverenz, of the State Mottos Project fame where she illustrated the Washington State motto, for GrowNYC. Annemieke did the hand-lettered branding and iconography for the Grains Week program, a seven day collaborative programming to promote the re-emergence of local grains in the NY regional food system.

Type Love: Geotica by Jos Buivenga

The Geotica typeface by Arnhem, Netherlands based type designer Jos Buivenga, published under his personal type foundry Exljbris, is a beautiful typeface that aims to build fonts out of simple geometric lines & shapes. Geotica comes in 16 fonts in four line weights filled with swashes, final forms, & ligatures. Jos has been kind enough to provide Geotica Three Regular for free on his website, with the entire family (16 fonts) costing only $100.00 through the MyFonts shop.

Type Love: Chartwell by TK Type

I’m stunned by how wonderfully amazing this typeface is! Chartwell by TK Type is a family that explores the extensive capabilities of the OpenType framework and creates beautiful, customizable and widely compatible graphs and charts. It can be used in any application that supports standard ligatures and the data remains editable since it is basically a string of type. Type Love: Newzald by Klim Type Foundry

The stunning Newzald typeface by Klim Type Foundry is the perfect typeface for the international editorial environment. The typeface, inspired by Dutch type masters like J.F. Rosart & J.M. Fleischman, features a large x-height and slightly condensed letterforms. Newzald comes in four weights, has a wide array of accents, numeral sets, and a small caps font and is available exclusively through Vllg.com.

Scrabble & Typogrpahy: The A-1 Scrabble set by Andrew Capener

The A-1 Scrabble set by recent BYU graduate Andrew Capener could possibly be the worlds most beautiful Scrabble set. The student project blends beautiful design and high-end packaging with a strong showing of typography classics like Helvetica. Seems like the perfect match to me, typography and Scrabble!

After a long day at the DMV and a couple of installations for the non-profit, Fresh Artists, coming home to find these fun Quotes posters by Buenos Aires based design studio POGO was just what I needed. Quotes is a personal project for the designers, something to take their minds off working with awesome clients all day I guess.

EF Language School’s “Live The Language”

Here are four amazingly beautiful short videos for EF (Education First) Language School’s “Live The Language” campaign. The shorts feature amazing typography, breathtaking shots and music that will be stuck in your head all day after watching all four. Immediately after viewing these, I found myself checking flights to Paris and Barcelona. Liz, we may have a vacation coming up soon.

Type Love: Livory by HVD Fonts

Totally in love with the Livory typeface from HVD Fonts. Its a beautiful oldstyle serif family of 4 fonts that includes a small caps font, 25 ornaments, and 50 different ligatures. The font was designed by Hannes von Döhren & Livius Dietzel over the coarse of 5 years and is influenced by French Renaissance Antiquas from the mid 16th century.
