LetterMpress iPad app on Kickstarter

This has to be one of the coolest and most original iPad apps I’ve seen to date! The LetterMpress app, being developed by John Bonadies, puts the entire letterpress process onto the iPad, allowing you to create “lock-ups” and print your files on a virtual Vandercook press. You can then export these files for use in your designs. This is a really cool project that I hope gets more people interested in this amazing printing technology.

Be sure to support the project on Kickstarter!

The World Wildlife Fund – WWF File Format

The World Wildlife Fund has released a new PDF based file format, a “.WWF” that disables the ability to print the document. I love this idea! So many of the files we send around are needlessly printed, wasting both a vital resource and some serious money.

A simple software download adds the support for saving and reading the new files and although the file format probably won’t be adopted many, the message is still clear. “Save a tree, and some green, by not printing things that don’t need to be printed.”

AutoCAD coming back to the Mac

My heart skipped a beat when I heard that AutoCAD was coming back to the Mac. Its been rumored for a while now that Autodesk would be releasing a MAC version of their AutoCAD software again for MAC users but I never thought it would actually happen. The last MAC version of the software was released in 1992 with support being stopped in 1994.

The Mac version will cost $3,995, the same as the PC version, and will be released in October. But what is really exciting is that they will be releasing a mobile version of the software for the iPhone and the iPad, with support for future tablets and mobile platforms to come as well.
