Linotype: The Film

Totally exited about the upcoming release of “LinoType: The Film” a film about the amazing type setting machine that revolutionized the printing industry. The film explores the rise and fall, and ultimate rebirth amoung printers hanging onto the craft of type setting. The Linotype type setting machine was invented by Ottmar Mergenthaler, more affectionately named The Second Gutenberg, in 1884 and was widely in use until the computer took over in the late 80′s.

Influential Architects by Isle of Printing

These beautiful letterpressed posters of the 3 most influential architects of our time, Philip Johnson, Walter Gropius, and Robert Venturi, were hand drawn and printed on an old Vandercook letterpress by Isle of Printing. It seems fitting to me that these posters were printed on a press that is from the same time that these 3 architects were hitting their stride.

Kluge – by Northern Lights

Meet Nick Sambrato. He runs a print shop in Orlando, Florida called Mama’s Sauce.

Meet Nick’s Kluge, a 2,000 pound, cast iron, electric powered monstrosity of rods, spinning wheels and pneumatic hoses.

The Kluge is Nick’s weapon of choice in his battle against the future.

I really wish I had one of these.
