The Levitating Woman: Natsumi Hayashi

For some reason I can’t get enough of Natsumi Hayashi’s self-portraits, The Levitating Woman. Something about them makes me smile. I think its her ability to hold a straight face while jumping in the air. You can follow her blog, Yowayowa Camera Woman Diary, and get her daily cute cat and Levitating Woman updates.

Disassembled Machines by Todd McLellan

Beautiful new work by photographer Todd McLellan, Disassembled Machines is a series in which McLellan breaks down ordinary objects & organizes them perfectly. McLellan’s process of disassembly, in this series, is as important as the final images. The machines are mostly from a bygone era, when things were still mostly controlled by mechanics and not silicon chips. The end results are amazing patterns, painstakingly arranged & beautifully photographed.

Through this show, Pete has become an art sensation with international acclaim including a feature article in Time Magazine.

Snow Blind by Matthias Heiderich

Snow Blind is an eerily beautiful collection of photographs by self-taught photographer Matthias Heiderich. The set was taken in Berlin, Matthias’ home base. I love the subtle color variation & bursts of vibrant color in this series. To me, all the white becomes both the subject matter and the frame that Matthias uses to highlight his subjects.

Bernat Fortet Unanue – Color Hunting in Barcelona #2

I’m really into bright & colorful yet simple and minimalist photographs and the Color Hunting in Barcelona #2 series by Barcelona based photographer and designer Bernat Fortet Unanue is at the top of my list right now. Bernat’s unique eye as a designer gives his images an amazing graphic quality. In Color Hunting in Barcelona #2, Bernat focuses the camera closer, abstracting the subject to simple color blocks and textures.

Double Exposure series by Dan Mountford

The “Double Exposure” series by photographer & illustrator Dan Mountford is eerily beautiful. Most of the work is done in camera with only color, contrast, and some vector additions being done in the computer. This set is some of the most original double exposure work I’ve seen lately.

See more of Dan’s work on his Flickr or his Behance portfolio.

Geometrics series Polaroids by Grant Hamilton

Check out the awesome Geometrics polaroid series by Iowa City based photographer Grant Hamilton. These vibrant photographs are closeup crops of things that Grant encounters in his everyday travels, capturing beauty, color, and stunning geometry in seemingly mundane places. Grant then scans his polaroids, blows some of them up larger than life, and sells them through the SuperMarket online store for around $30.00 (for the 1:1 scale prints.)
