Composition Light Series by Miya Kondo

Composition Light by designer Miya Kondo is a beautiful series of lamps that plays with “our emotional experience of space, time and place.” The light in the lamps becomes an integral part of the visual structure of the lamps. Minimalism at its finest in which less is definitely more.

1X1 LED Desk Lamp by Victor Vetterlein

The 1X1 LED Desk Lamp by New York based designer Victor Vetterlein is as simple as it gets. The single wood stick (made from factory cut-offs) is internally weighted at one end and comes with a separate bendable rod that is is used as the lights stand. The user can re-bend and move the rod around to customize the lamp and direct the light to where they need it.

Jump & Cudepoule Lamps by Claude Saos

The Jump & Cudepoule Lamps by Strasbourg based designer Claude Saos are works of simple beauty. Claude’s use of familiar materials in unexpected ways lends beautifully to these two lamps. Both lamps, the Jump Lamp, with its concrete shade, steel base and oak supports, and the Cudepoule Lamp with its felt shade and oak base,  use the properties of each material perfectly.

Big Bounce by Atelier Takagi

Big Bounce by Atelier Takagi is a brilliant little floor lamp that bounces its light off a vibrantly powder coated panel to diffuse it and direct it around the room. The all laser cut steel and FSC certified oak lamp is a fun take on the traditional boring arena of floor lamps.

I saw this amazing new lamp at ICFF this year and it blew my mind. The Clamp Lamp by designer Dana Cannam for Pablo is a beautiful task lamp that attaches to any desk surface with pure ingenuity rather that hardware.

The Pinha Lamp by Shay Alkalay & Yael Mer of Raw Edges

Part of the Inhabitat Bright Ideas competition in conjunction with Phillips, The Pinha Lamp by Shay Alkalay and Yael Mer of Raw Edges is a fun idea on a flexible lamp. The molded cork fixture wraps around a hanging florescent bulb, allowing you to pin almost anything you want to it, creating your shade. I love this idea, it’s a playful approach to lighting through personalization.
