As a year-end appreciation for their clients, the amazing talents at Column Five, a design firm specializing in data-visualizations based in Newport Beach, CA, put together the “In Caffeine We Trust” poster. This beautiful poster tracks the caffeine consumption over the period of month and is meant to be filled in using the very drink it tracks.

Users track their intake for the month then fill the poster out using coffee as paint. They gave one to each of their partners & clients and have produced a limited run that’s available for only $29.95 on their website.

WaitBook, Rethinking the Waiting Room by FuelFor

Rethinking The Waiting Room is a holistic case study, by Barcelona based design studio FuelFor, looking at ways they can enhance the waiting room experience for patients in healthcare. The final designs incorporate signage and wayfinding, industrial design, as well as graphic design and print elements and a smartphone portal for all the relevant information. The information is all wrapped up in a bound book published & sold through Blurb.

“Modu” is a modular furniture system that is adaptable to a wide range of needs & spaces and includes spaces for wheelchair accessible sitting. “Tableau” is a modular table and counters space that works in conjunction with “Modu” and includes spaces to hold documents from “Folio,” the color coded system of documents that includes patient notes, doctor notes, prescription information, as well as a building map and wayfinding guide for the hospital.

“Inline” is the smartphone portal to all the information included in “Folio” and provides real-time updates to waiting time, healthcare tips and notes, as well as access their medical records. “Counter Act” a free standing counter that includes a public announcements board, tips for healthy living, or any other relevant information to the patients. The final piece of the system is “HealthPoint,” a guideline for  architects to include certain parts in the healthcare environment.

A Bunch of Crock Poster Series by Safwat Saleem

The “A Bunch of Crock” Poster Series by Safwat Saleem may be a little rude but what it lacks in politeness it makes up for in honesty. The posters were created as part of a Kickstarter funded show in Pheonix, AZ in which Safwat comments on the political landscape in America today. Watch the video Safwat used on Kickstarter below for some context on this project and his ideas behind it.

In his words, “It was a response to the current public discourse and the political landscape in the US. Being a Pakistani immigrant living in Arizona, the last election cycle and the general anti-immigrant rhetoric prevalent at that time was particularly alarming. Going through various campaign ads, I almost felt like the jokes were already written and all I had to do was find a nice bow to put on them.”

Also part of the show was a video that yelled obscene “public service” announcements at the audience, an audio installation titled “Box of Bullshit” and a game called “Fling Some Shit Game” that encouraged the visitor to throw shit at a target on the wall.

I realize that some of the content might be unsettling & rude but I think the works over all are a brilliant reaction to the turmoil in our current political scene. You can learn more about the show, see the public service video, hear the audio from “Box of Bullshit” and purchase prints for only $40 on the A Bunch of Crock website.
