The bikes of Shinya Kimura

I’m a big fan of Shinya Kimura’s work. His motorcycles are built from his heart and his soul and not what the current trends are. His bikes are built free for the limitations of what bikes are supposed to be. He rarely draws his ideas on paper, leaving him to discover the bikes through the feeling of the materials rather than planning them out start to finish. Shinya currently builds under the shop name Chabott Engineering, located in Azusa California. This great video about Shinya Kimura was filmed by Henrik Hansen.

Victor Bike by Christophe Robillard

The Victor bike by Christophe Robillard is as unusual as they come. It’s a minimalist’s dream on 2 wheels. Robillard removed all the material he could from the bike by using a tube bending process that left him with a skeleton structure of a frame. The benefit, other that the bike looks really cool, is that all the costs of building a traditional frame are cut in half. The amount of metal forming required is drastically cut as is the number of welds that are traditionally done by hand.

The bike features an integrated rear wheel fender and reflectors on both the front and back. My only concern with the frame is that the back wheel may wobble with the flexing of the frame, something I’m sure he has taken into account.

Bike Porter bike basket by Copenhagen Parts

I saw a prototype of this floating around the web a while back and I was never sure if it was just someone with a knowledge in welding and a love for bikes or the beginning of a really awesome bike accessory available to the masses. It seems it is the later case. Copenhagen Parts has released one hell of a beautiful bike accessory, the Bike Porter bike basket with integrated handles.

My all time favorite bike basket is still the Pop-Up basket from MIO since it fits a greater demographic of riders being that it can work on any bike without reconfiguring any parts. The Bike Porter from Copenhagen Parts requires you to remove your handle bars (as well as anything attached to them, shifters, breaks, etc.) and replace them with the basket. While the installation of the basket could be complex, depending on your current setup, the finished look is nothing short of stunning.

The basket can be purchased ($250.00) online from iMiNUSD here: Bike Porter

Poster for Art Crank by Allan Peters

Really fun poster for the Minneapolis bike art show, Art Crank, by Allen Peters.

Check out some of the thumbnails for some process shots.

From Allen Peters:

This poster was created for Art Crank Minneapolis – a poster show for people who love biking. When I got this project, my wife and I had just found out that we were going to have a baby and so I wanted to do something that mixed that joy with my joy of biking.
